Welcome Syd The Kid to our newest “Featured Friends.” Syd the Kid is one half of the duo “The Internet” and founding member of Odd Future. Starting as an engineer and producer she recorded some of the OF classics in her home studio named “The Trap” before opening up a studio of her own Chateu Marie. She toured with OF as a DJ but left that gig to her little brother Taco (OF Member) and is now touring, recording, and sharing her talents in front of the microphone. Make sure to DL the entire Album here (its a great soundtrack to her photos.) And check out some an Interview and photos below from some studio sessions and her recent trip to Hawaii!
Whats your (full) name?
Where do you live? Or base your work out of?
I live in Mid City Los Angeles and I work out of my studio in Hollywood.
What is your work?
I make music, I DJ, I engineer and mix, and I sing sometimes.
How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Probably 25. Sometimes I feel very wise, and then there are other times when I feel like I have so much to learn still.
Whats your favorite home cooked meal?
My moms meatloaf!
If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move? why?
I’d move to New York if I could afford it, or New Zealand!
What is your most essential appliance?
My iPhone if that counts, or my studio computer.
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
French! I’ve always wanted to speak French. Rosetta Stone is in my near future.
Do you have a favorite photographer?
I don’t, but shout out Brick Stowell, Foofylaa, Ace, Miriha Austin and Tundae Mena.
What was your favorite part of contributing to the ThroughWHOSE project?
Wondering what my pictures were going to look like!
We love these photos of Matt Martians, the other half of The Internet (Feature coming soon…;). Its obvious in the photos there is a close friendship. What are some of the best things about making music together?
Our taste is almost identical yet we both bring different elements to the table. So when we’re making music, we don’t step on each other’s toes, and we create stuff that neither of us could make on our own.
Ahhhh Can you take us back here? Where are you in this photo? Whats the occasion? Is this a blunt for one?
Haha I believe we were in Hawaii, and we were probably sharing the blunt. Unfortunately I can’t remember anything else about it. Ha.
There was lots of music making in your roll, we noticed Left Brain and Yuna in these two. What is it like making music with such a wide array of artist and sounds? Is there anyone you would like to work with you haven’t yet?
It’s beautiful. You never get bored when you work with all different kinds of people. There are so many people I’d love to work with, like Jill Scott, Jamiroquai, Dorian Concepts, Gwen Bunn…
